The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais officially launched the call for nominations for the 2016/17 Cultural Affairs Awards, scheduled for February 2017. The 2016/17 theme is “Embrace Cultural Inclusivity”.

Previous award winners were present at the launch.

One of which was Thami Mbongo, the 2015/16 Best Contribution to Performing Arts: Drama category winner who is key to the success of the Zabalaza Festival.

He has also been instrumental in many community members being afforded an opportunity to perform at the Baxter.

He works closely with the Department on the Drama Development programme and has assisted with workshops and training on scriptwriting, directing and all aspects of performance. He unselfishly gives of his time and expertise and is a mentor to many aspiring youth actors and actresses.
