City’s Easter programme

2017-03-30 06:03

The City’s libraries, nature reserves, and recreation centres are all offering interesting programmes during the Easter school holiday period to ensure that there will not be a hunt for fun, only chocolate eggs.

The city departments have pulled out all the stops to ensure that there is something for everyone during the upcoming school holidays.

They said there is no need for children to be idle and get up to the mischief that boredom can lead to. Parents are encouraged to send their children to take part in these educational, fun-filled, and jam-packed programmes

The programmes at city libraries are centred around Easter and will include activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, Easter egg hunts, games, reading programmes, DVD shows, and more.

Some programmes at the libraries will be presented in collaboration with other departments such as Traffic Services and the Fire and Rescue Service.

Residents should please visit their local library for further details or keep an eye on the city’s website.

The city’s Recreation and Parks Department will host a range of activities for children of all ages.

The planned programmes will run daily from 3 to 17 April 2017 and will be presented at the city’s various community centres, multipurpose centres, sports fields, and parks.

Indoor programmes include table-tennis, air hockey, E-games, limbo, pool, poetry and drama, concerts, and indigenous games, while outdoor programmes include five-a-side soccer, mini-netball, hiking excursions, Easter egg treasure hunts, and spray park games.

Alderman JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, and Social Services, said “The aim of these programmes is two-fold. They not only keep the young ones busy, but also motivate and encourage them to participate in more sport and recreation activities. I encourage residents to visit their local community centres daily to find out what is happening.

“The City will also reopen the 26 public pools and six spray parks that have been closed to ensure that our hard-working learners can enjoy their holidays and cool off with the warmer weather still expected over the next few weeks,’ Smith said.

The pools will be open daily from 31 March 2017 for the duration of the school holidays until 18 April 2017.

Pools will be open between 10:00 and 17:00, with Sea Point pool opening from 07:00 until 18:00.
