Police in the Nyanga Cluster have arrested more than 300 people in the last week.

According to a report from Nyanga police spokesperson, Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi, various operations resulted in 15 illegal firearms and ammunition being confiscated.

She says the confiscations and the 21 related arrests were results of tip-offs by the community.

Police also clamped down on well-known drug houses in the cluster and searched a total of 143 drug outlets and arrested 223 suspects for drug dealing and possession.

Sitshitshi says this was followed by 151 shebeen operations which resulted in 24 arrests and a tracing operation which resulted in 33 wanted persons across the cluster being arrested.

Officers confiscated 6.778kg of dagga, just over 1 900 mandrax tablets, 553.5g of tik, 58g of heroin, 20g of khat,16 882.2 liters of liquor and recovered nine stolen vehicles.

“The officers were praised for their hard work and concerted efforts in ensuring that illegal firearms, drugs and liquor were confiscated in order to save lives and in ensuring that those who continue to disrupt peace in the communities are brought to book,” she concludes.
