Cops calls for community to assist in investigation

Harare police have called on the community to help them piece together pieces of the puzzle after gunmen robbed a shebeen and shot at the patrons last week in Enkanini, Khayelitsha.

According to the police the six armed men stormed into the shebeen and demanded cash before sprayed bullets.

“Three patrons were shot in the process, two died on the scene and one was taken to hospital. They made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Harare SAPS at (021) 363 9000 and request to speak to the Investigating Officer Sgt Nceba Gojo,” said Harare Police spokesperson Lieutenant Siyabulela Vukubi.

Vukubi also noted the illegal shebeen were in fact adding to the crime problem in the area.

“We would like to express their concern with regards to the illegal liquor outlets that are operating in Harare precinct. An increasing number of these shebeens are posing a huge threat to safety of the citizens in our communities. They are also creating a space for ruthless criminals to execute these criminal elements,” he said.

He also urged legal liquor outlets to operate within their stipulated time frames to prevent these incidents.
