Ten suspects were arrested in Khayelitsha over the weekend after police attached to the Provincial Stability unit conducted a crime swoop in Site C.

Police spokeswoman Constable Noxolo Rwexane said police noticed a suspicious looking man during a patrol in the area.

When he saw the police, the suspect ran between the shacks, shooting at them. Police gave chase and the suspect was arrested.

A preliminary investigation was conducted and it was discovered that the firearm he used had been stolen from an off duty police member in Thembani.

The suspect,29, is facing charges of robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court next Tuesday.

.In another case, four suspects were arrested for the murder of a 46 year old woman from Kuyasa in Harare.

“The body of the woman was found in her yard with injuries to the head. The deceased was taken to hospital but later died of her injuries. Four suspects will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court soon,” said Rwexana.

.She said four more arrests were made in the early hours of Friday morning when police followed up on information about a business robbery in the Khayelitsha mall.

“We arrested four suspects aged between 22 and 30 and confiscated four cellphones, allegedly stolen.

The suspects will also appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Monday facing charges of business robbery and possession of presumed stolen property.

.Also on Friday morning, a suspect was arrested shortly after he had robbed a man of his cellphone and jacket in Site C.

Police members took the complainant to the place where he was robbed. While they were patrolling the area, the complainant pointed out two men, one of which was wearing his jacket. One suspect was apprehended; the cell phone and the jacket were retrieved.

.Dagga valued at R270 000 was seized in Mfuleni after police followed up on a tip-off, and searched a house in Shukushukuma informal settlement.

A 33 year old male, who is the owner of the house, was arrested and his case is before the Blue Downs Magistrate Court, facing charges of dealing in an illegal substance.
