Khayelitsha DJ cum-producer has Sanele Wili has now joined the likes of Black Coffee and Zahara, following his signing by Universal Records this week.

Sanele, 25, popularly known as DJ Mizz will be releasing three albums with the label, including his latest offering, Never Stop Dreaming, which will be released in August under Black Mango Music.

He now becomes one of the first house DJ/producers to be signed by Universal Music from Cape Town in the urban music scene.

According to Black Mango Music’s Thabo Mobo the deal has been in the works for about 8 months and was finally signed last week.

“It hasn’t been easy to finalise but now that it’s done it signifies the first steps towards building his commercial career as an artist to reach national platform,” said Mobo.

He also announced that the first single from the album will be collaboration with Mpumi called Kuwe.

“We are very excited about the album because people have been waiting for his album for a long time and he will finally be able to deliver,” he added.

He also revealed that they were planning to do part of various festivals across the country as well as visiting Dubai and UK towards the end of the year.

Mizz made his breakthrough in the industry when he was one of the producers on the DJ Merlons – Koze Kuse hit. He continued to impress with his work when the song ‘Count Your Blessings’, in which he worked with Rabs Vhafuwi, became another hit.

While his rise to fame may seem sudden, he has been making music since 2007.

His attributes working with the likes of mega DJ Black Coffee as one of his the highlights of his young career.

He thanked the people of Khayelitsha for the support that they have given him in his career.
