A suspected Khayelitsha drug dealer was caught by police after he literally walked into police during a roadblock.

The 31-year- old was arrested after walking past the cops who were stopping cars on Friday morning.

“At approximately 10:00 police were issuing traffic violation fines and searching suspicious vehicles. Seventeen fines to the amount of R9000.00 were issued during the operation.

Subsequently, an unknown man just walked in between the police,” said Harare police spokesperson Lieutenant Siyabulela Vukubi.

He said that police then decided to search the wandering stranger and it bore fruit.

“They discovered eight mandrax tablets in his possession. He was arrested for possession of mandrax and he was set to appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court on Monday,” said Vukubi.

.In other news, Harare police managed to arrest a suspected drug dealer after a community tip off..

“Police who were on vehicle patrol on Thursday approximately 14:00 were notified by a member of the community about a house that sold dagga in Endlovini informal settlement in Khayelitsha. Responding to the tip off, police quickly diverted to that address,” he said.

Police discovered 10 parcels, four bank bags, 7 plastic bags all containing dagga as well as 57 rolls of dagga.

“The dagga tipped the scale at 7.9kg to the estimated street value of R5000.00.

A 36-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of dagga and is expected to make an appearance at Khayelitsha Magistrate Court once he is charged,” said Vukubi.

Another man was arrested for being in possession of tik in Enkanini informal settlement after police found R450 worth of drugs in his house. The 25 year old appeared at the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court.

“We would like to encourage community members to alert us of crimes that are being committed” he added.
