The Cape Food and Farmers’ Market is a newly established concern that was launched last year and is based at 81 Palotti Road at the golf course in Montana.

Owners Lesedi Mokgatlhe, Nico Daweti and Ntuthu Mazwana saw a need for this type of initiative as a way of bringing people together through food, drinks and music in a way to address some social problems currently facing Cape Town, namely; social cohesion, community development and social mobility.

The organisation also wants to inculcate the entrepreneurial spirit in the communities.

We want to see a community that demonstrates a true passion for building something great from nothing and willing to push to the limits and achieve bigger goals.

The long term will see people who started off as vendors become fully fledged business owners in the own right, but most importantly, to educate people through life testimonies about the ‘Vukuzenzele’ concept - doing things for yourself and not waiting for the private sector and the government to take a lead in job creation.

The market should be able to sustain the livelihood of many households in 5 years-time.

The target market for the market is three fold; firstly the vendors, these are the informal underdeveloped vendors that sell food, art, clothing merchandise, accessories, etc.

The market provides a platform where all these vendors can progress to become established business people.

Secondly, the performing artists, the aim is to give a platform to those up and coming raw artists who perform indigenous music to solidify and further their musical ambitions through exposure. Last, but not least, the customers.

There are no boundaries whatsoever when it comes to customers.

Customers are urged to come and support this initiative and about 50 vendors are expected to attend the coming market which will be held as follows:

Date: 01 April 2017. Venue: 81 Palotti Road Montana golf course. Time: 10h00 – 17h00

Contact details: Ntuthu Mazwana (078 255 5297).
