Generations has lost the legacy regarding Karabo

2016-02-18 06:00

The character of Karabo Moroka on Generations - The Legacy reflects exactly what the producer of the soapie thinks.

Most soapies promote beliefs that are foreign to our culture.

There is nothing positive to learn from these programmes. Polyandry(in which a woman has more than one husband) is mostly practised in India and around the Himalaya Mountains. People, especially so-called educated ones, should be careful when importing foreign cultural practices, as some of them do not fit in our conditions. There are a lot of factors involved in polyandry which would make it difficult for it to succeed in our country.

The practice is meant for societies where there are more men than women.

It is also used to reduce the population.

Another factor involved the religion of the area and whether it allows such a practice. Is South African society ready for such a custom? Do we satisfy some if not all of these and other factors involved in such a choice? What happens to the two husbands of this wife when she is pregnant and has to spend her time taking care of the newborn baby? I think Generations - The Legacy has lost the plot. What the soapie is promoting is wrong.
