LETTER: Grants-ANC must find a way

2017-03-16 06:03

It looks like the ANC no longer cares about the integrity of individuals it sends to parliament.

Over the past few weeks, I have been following the #SASSA saga with great interest.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) indicated that it had no clear strategy in place to ensure continued payment of social grants after 31st March 2017.

It will be very interesting to see what measures the government will take regarding this national crisis.

South Africa experiences high levels of poverty and unemployment and desperate people rely on social grants.

The majority of South African households struggle to make ends meet, with many families living below the poverty line.

Pensioners and children who depend on social grants to survive are at risk of going hungry.
These are the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable citizens in South Africa, who will be affected by the #SASSA crisis if nothing’s done.

The government needs to develop a plan on how to minimise the amount of social grants it pays out. The economy is not growing and levels of unemployment are ever increasing. Can the ANC government learn to respect our Constitution and take responsibility for the mess they have created and ensure immediate intervention?

About 17 million lives are at stake and the ANC government better not fool around on that day.
