Its a hard knock life but there are lessons to be learnt

2017-07-27 06:01

These days I believe we have lost the power of humanity, especial in our communities.

No one really cares about one another, irrespective of their state of wealth. The have-nots always blame the haves for their misfortune.

In return, the haves tend to exploit the downtrodden.

The daily spectacle in our townships really sadness me.

The value of the person is valued or measured by their possessions.

Older citizens bear the brunt of being used for acts unbecoming of their status, depending on who has what.

These days it is not uncommon to see grown men, some with families and children to look after, pacing up and down the streets, rushing to be caddies to buy crates of beer for shebeen owners.

What sadness me the most is that payment for this is a bottle of beer.

They don’t get anything to take home to their families or children.

As a young man it is not unheard of my peers engaging with women of my mother’s age to do house chores for me, as long I am willing to give her something, whether it is money or in kind.

We don’t pay them according to their valued.

We give them what we think are they are worth. It is totally unacceptable and disgusting.

What has happened with our human values and morals as African people.

Society must always remember that it takes one individual to change a life.

No one can do it for you. If you are a person who wants to progress in life, strive to be a better person when you wake up.

God gave you a talent not a job and remember He also helps those who are making an effort and not just waiting for a miracles to happen.

If you are not pushing hard in what you do or in what you want, then you are not doing yourself any favour.

You also need to know the value of your talent as a person.

Wisdom takes more than just cleverness and intelligence. Wisdom comes from experience and making mistakes. Never settle for less!
