Khayelitsha police still hold to high values of community work

2016-09-08 06:00

The Khayelitsha police cluster under Cluster Commander Major General Johan Brand, hereby pledges to commit to serve the community of Khayelitsha, guided by the police code of conduct.

Each police official has signed an undertaking to render a responsible and effective service of high quality, including accesibility to these services.

Each police station has the following services available to the community: Community Service Centre, Detective Services and Administration Services.

1. Community Service Centre – Attending to clients within a reasonable time period, combatting crime through effective crime prevention operations, attending to crime related complaints and register case dockets.

2. Detective Services – Effectively investigate all reported crimes; ensure that criminals are brought to justice by gathering enough evidence. Strive to increase the detection rate in serious crimes, contact crime and crimes dependent on police action.

3. Administration Services – provide the following services: police clearance, vehicle clearance, firearm competency and renewals, name clearance with fingerprints and public driving permit.

However it should be noted that not all the services rendered at the police station are free.

Most services rendered at administration are payable at a minimum cost of which enquiries can be made at the nearest police station.

The South African Police Service also enhances the participation of communities by establishing and sustaining effective Community Policing Forums (CPF), Neighbourhood Watches and ensuring the effective utilization of Police Reservists in support of the SAPS.

The SAPS is also regulated by the South African National Constitution in providing the services to the community which embraces the Batho Pele Principles.

As the organization we strive to consult, inform so that our clients could have access in an open and transparent environment through our service standards.

In the case of unsatisfactory services, communities are urged to direct their complaints regarding service delivery to:

. The station commander of that particular station.

. The office of the Provincial Commissioner.

. The National Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

. The Provincial Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

Please report crime and any information on criminal activity to crime stop number 08600 10111 or to the local police station.

The SAPS service delivery charter is made available in the Community Service Centre (CSC) for the members of the community to familiarise themselves with every information provided to enhance service delivery.
