The voice of local powerhouse, Lelo Ramasimong is currently filling the Baxter Theatre as a lead vocalist in Burn The Floor: Fire In The Ballroom.

Considered the show that that revolutionised the image of dance, Burn the Floor presents ballroom and Latin dancing as a theatrical production.

The show Burn The Floor opened in England in 1999. A decade later, after visiting thirty countries and over 160 cities worldwide, it achieved its long standing dream, to bring Ballroom to Broadway - appearing at the Longacre Theatre in New York, followed by two hugely successful seasons in London’s West End.

Burn The Floor today remains focused on its ballroom origins, but this current production with a theatrical rock angle – including music from Santana, Janis Joplin, Christine Aguilera and Led Zeppelin.

Burn The Floor has the reputation of being the world’s toughest dance show and the dancers are handpicked to embrace a new Latin American feel. The international cast of dance champions now includes the sensational South Africans, Johannes Radebe and Kylee Brown.

For Lelo, joining Burn The Floor: Fire in The Ballroom “is an honour” and she’s excited to be a part of this international production.

The songbird rose to singing prominence in South Africa since her participation as a Top 10 finalist on Idols SA some years ago, before taking to the dance floor herself on the television show, Strictly Come Dancing.

Lelo then took to the theatre to put her voice to the ultimate test by performing in the stage production of Dreamgirls in 2011 – and one of the biggest moments of her professional career so far.

As for Burn The Floor: Fire In The Ballroom, Lelo says fans “are in for a treat” and that they “should expect the unexpected”.

“What I really love about this show is that I get to perform songs from different styles of music. There are songs for every member of the family to enjoy, and the dancing is absolutely phenomenal. The magnitude of this show is really jaw dropping to say the least.”The production end on Sunday 5 June. Tickets at Computicket.
