2015-11-19 06:00

Routine maintenance to the Khayelitsha Hospital Emergency Unit ventilation system will be implemented from Monday, 09 November until Friday, 11 December 2015.

The maintenance project is divided into three phases. Phase 1, (09 November to 03 December). The Resuscitation Bay and Asthma Room will not be available for patient care during this phase. Phase 2, (16 November to 20 November). 50 percent of the emergency unit trolley area will not be available for patient care during this phase.

•Phase 3, (23 November to 11 December). The remaining percent of the emergency unit trolley area will not be available for patient care during this phase.

During phase 1, life threatening condition and critically ill patients will be diverted via Emergency Medical Services to other facilities such as Tygerberg hospital and Groote Schuur hospital. A temporary resuscitation bay will be activated for walk in clients with life threatening conditions.

During phase 2 and 3 patients in the emergency trolley area will be relocated internally within the hospital.

The maintenance project will be beneficial to the Khayelitsha community as it will significantly reduce the risk of spread of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis within the emergency unit.
