It’s a blessing for children to see their parents grow old.

Michael Gwatyu,56, from Phakamisa and his siblings planned a big birthday bash for their mother last week.

Gogo Nothozamile Gwatyu turned 87 and the family celebrated her life.

“We decided to celebrate her life as she has reached a milestone,” said Mike.

“It’s always good to appreciate God for the long life he has afforded our mother.

“My mother raised us on her own. My father left when we were young.”

He said his mum was a domestic worker but she made sure they had the best life opportunities possible.

When the team visited the family last weekend, gogo Nothozamile was in high spirits.

“My children take care of me and the birthday bash(has) made me very happy,” she said.

“I thank God for giving me many years on earth to see my children grow. I can happily say that many of the things I wanted for my children have been fulfilled.

“I also managed to see my grandchildren grow and some of them have their own children.”

She said she would pray to live more than 100 years!

Neighbours, relatives and friends gathered and enjoyed a feast with the gogo.

Daughter-in-law Zanele praised gogo Nothozamile.

“She’s always been a supportive mother since the day I met her. I wish her many more years!”
