The family of a Nyanga man who was fatally shot by three gunmen in his house are still reeling in shock, days after the incident.

Cengile Mlityalwa,38, was shot dead just before dawn on Friday.

He stayed not far from popular tshisanyama, Ezigusheni. His brother, Mjongeni Mlityalwa, 52, said an unknown man barged into their house, forcing the deceased’s wife, Nosiphelele, who had just stepped out of the gate, back into the house.

The assailant then pushed his way to the lounge, where they found the deceased and shot him to death.

“They started shooting him in the lounge. He ran to the toilet as he was trying to escape, but they followed him and fatally shot him in the toilet. We do not know them. They did not say a word and they did not take anything from the house.”

Mjongeni said they still do not know the motive behind the attack as his brother was a mere boat-repairman at a firm in Montagu Gardens.

The grieving wife was at the gate heading for work when the suspects stormed into their house, said Mjongeni.

Cengile leaves his wife and two children aged nine and five years.

Sergeant Mxhasa of Nyanga police confirmed the incident. “The victim died at the scene. Suspect fled in a white Toyota Avanza, registration unknown. A case of murder was opened by the brother of the deceased. No arrests have been made as yet,” Mxhasa said. Cengile will be laid to rest in Mgwali, in Cumakala, in the Eastern Cape, on Saturday 19 March.
