An 18-year old man’s body was discovered near Khayelitsha Training Centre after he was allegedly beaten by an angry mob.

Sources at the scene said the deceased was part of a group that tried to a rob man on his way to work in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police could not confirm the incident but warned people not take the law into their hands.

“Circumstances surrounding the death of an 18 year old man whose body was found, are under investigation. A murder case was opened for investigation,” said SAPS spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.

He spoke against residents enforcing “roadside justice” and called on them “to let the police carry out their work.”

“Taking the law to yourself is a criminal offence. The people have the responsibility to report crime to the police. We understand the anger aggrieved people, but they should afford the accused person the opportunity to face the law. They must have confidence in the police to be able to handle the situation to their satisfaction,” Van Wyk warned.
