A murder suspect man who has been on the run for almost two years has been arrested at the Nyanga terminus.

Nyanga police spokesperson, Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi, says the 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday (3 March) following a tip-off.

She says in March 2015 the suspect allegedly shot and killed five people including a woman who were sitting in a car at night in Lindela Road, Nyanga.

“The four men were shot while sitting in a vehicle and the woman was shot in her back while she was trying to run away. She died due to bullet wounds she sustained.  The other four victims who were from New Crossroads were taken to New Crossroads hospital but died due to injuries they sustained.”

In addition, Sitshitshi says the same suspect allegedly shot two men and their mother on 3 December. “The victims sustained gunshot wounds on various parts of their bodies. The family have since run away from the province.”

Nyanga station commander, Brigadier Vuyisile Ncata, thanked officers of the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit for their success and excellent networking with the public in ensuring the suspect is brought to book. He also thanked residents who continue to assist with information solely for justice to be served.

The man appeared in the Athlone Magistate’s Court on Monday 6 March and has been sent to Pollsmoor Prison.
