Thulani Mawethu is a young Langa-based performer and filmmaker, who is poised to once again bring his unique flavour to Langa’s creative scene on Friday night at Guga S’thebe.

In ‘Psalms of an MC’, hosted by Poetics, Thulani, who is affectionately called Nahum by his peers, expertly blends hip hop with reggae beats in a way that is ‘anything, but typical’.

According to Nahum, his material is well-considered and will appeal to those who are ‘craving some food for thought’, infused with sounds mixed by his long-time friend, Geel. No stranger to the mic, he has shared stages with artists like Proverb, MXO, Bongo Dred, Dilinja and Teba the social worker.

Nahum says, “Langa is by no means short of talent and a number of creatives will be showcased in this event.

Many of us are working hard to establish ourselves, and it can only work if we support each other and of course, with the support from the people.”

For ‘Psalms of an MC’, he will be joined by a diverse mix of young artists, such as Letsopa, Ndlulamthi, SIM, G Major-O and El Idol. Local clothing designers and crafters will market their wares, while other stalls will include books and food.

Originally from Port Elizabeth, Nahum has immersed himself in the township of Langa with the hope of positively influencing this community, particularly the youth. Although young, he is already a diligent community activist
