Nominations galore for Kukhanya PS

A teacher and learner from Kukhanya Primary School, Crossroads that excel in sport are nominated to get yet other awards for their school.

Nolufefe Racula, teacher and Unathi Sikunana, 15, Grade 9 learner are priding themselves for being nominated for five awards in the Sports Metro Awards, which will be held at Banqueting Hall in the City Centre, on 01 March.

Racula is nominated for the Coach of the Year award and Team of the Year, while Sikunana is nominated for Indigenous Game Star of the Year and Junior Sport’s Man of the Year, while their school team for Developing School Team of the Year and also Team of the Year.

The team of the school which attracted the nominations plays Kgati (rope skipping).

The team started participating in indigenous games in 2000.

Nontsika Tshetu, former learner at the school, was crowned the first South African Champion for Intonga, in the finals which were held in KwaZulu Natal, in 2003.

Under 13 team for Kgati won silver medal in the finals in Pretoria, in 2014.

In 2015 they won gold medal in national level.

Under 13 and under 18 teams then won gold medals each in the national competition which was held in Johannesburg, in 2016.

Racula won an award for being the best coach for Kgati in the province during Sports Metro Awards, in 2015.

Sikunana, also plays basketball and he is a dancer too.
