Up and coming kwaito and hip hop artists will hear it from the horses mouth when the industry’s top dogs address them at Look Out Hill on Saturday August 27.

Dubbed as Kwaito House Evolution Conference, it boasts a formidable line-up of speakers and performers like Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa and Lerato Kganyago and Dj Bongz.

Topnotch Entertainment director Oscar Mehlwana said the purpose of the conference is to provide skills development, economic and marketing opportunities to the Cape Town black youth within the music sector.

“These are legends in the kwaito and house genre and we they will impart knowledge and skills to the upcoming musicians,” said Oscar.

He said they planned the conference to address the state of the industry that hasn’t grown professionally and economically in the region.

“It’ s diificult to compare Western Cape with other provinces especially Gauteng and KZN,” Oscar said.

He said their company acknowledges the role of kwaito and house music in developing the identity of South African black youth.

“We would like to create a platform for the new up and coming talented youth to gain valuable knowledge and avoid the situation of artists dying poor due bad business decisions or lack of knowledge,”

The conference will take place from 8am to 3pm during which artists will be taught about issues ranging from taking music as a business, contract negotiations and how to run your own studio.

At the conference there willl be an opportunity for a short course music scholarship to a deserving up and coming artist.

There will be an after party at the Marimba restaurant at the CTICC which will see the established artist perform with Cape Town artists Kaunda, War, Mbacu, Max Ruffest, Sugar, OD, Mshayi and many more.
