LETTER: Paramedics deserve better

2017-01-12 06:01

Ruthless thugs attack our paramedics even in their line of duty on a daily basis.

This is totally unacceptable. These paramedics come to our areas to save lives. They should be protected and not murdered. Government must tighten the laws and deal accordingly with the perpetrators.

This didn’t happen under the old South African government. Why is it happening now? Harsh penalties should be imposed against all those who rob, rape and murder our hard- working paramedics.

The same goes for cop killers. These killers should all rot in jail and never come back. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure we will not have the death penalty again any time soon. It would have been an appropriate punishment for those kind of criminals. They all deserve life in prison without parole. The fact that criminals have rights is not acceptable to the majority of South Africans. Their rights should be taken away because they also take away their victims’ rights.

As long as they still have rights, they will never understand that what they are doing is wrong.

South Africa must learn from Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Botswana’s President Ian Khama. These two presidents know how to deal with criminals.

In Mzansi we treat criminals with kid gloves, and this is the reason they go back to their evil ways upon release.

Criminals enjoy too much freedom.

They do as they please and they easily smuggle dangerous weapons in to attack the warders and other prisoners.

Most of our violent criminals are repeat offenders who roam free because of our weak justice system.
