Parents of learners at Bulumko High are so angry with acts of gang violence there that they decided to blockade the school on Tuesday.

About 30 of them picketed at the gates, demanding an intervention from the officials.

The livid parents shut the gates of the school demanding that learning will continue when there is a plan to curb the violence.

This is after their own plan of intervention failed to yield results. The parents said they had conducted search parties at the school gates, searching the learners.

“However these boys, some as old as 21-years-old, started threatening the parents with knives and pangas. Others chased one of the parents, a man that just wanted to help the school rid of gang violence. There have been many cases where children have been attacked inside and outside school premises,” said the parent who did not want her name published.

According to one of the parents, the fighting is between boys from the J section and Town Two and this has led to some learners staying away from school.

“The situation is so bad that our children are refusing to go to school as they fear for their lives.”

Parents said they suspect that the weapons are snuck into the school through the fence and some are even planted in the garden,”

The said that they want the department to come come up with a plan.
