Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad arrested two suspects in different locations on Monday for hijacking.

The first arrest happened around 11:20 while they were on patrol in Chris Hani Road in Samora Machel, says Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Jakobus Marthinus.

“The members noticed a white Polo driving recklessly. They gave chase and upon stopping the vehicle, two suspects got out of the car and fled on foot. One suspect, aged 34 was arrested for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle. “

Marthinus says the second arrest happened at around 15:00 when members of the same unit apprehended a 31-year-old man for the possession of a hijacked vehicle in Cossovo, Samora Machel.

“While they were on patrol, they spotted an Isuzu bakkie with all doors opened. When the suspects saw the police approaching, they ran into different directions. One of the suspects was arrested. It was discovered that the Isuzu was hijacked.”

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today 16 August.

The other two suspects are still at large.
