Monday was a good day for Nyanga police as they nabbed two killers who were wanted for separate incidents in Philippi.

According to the police, the two murders took place in Cossovo and Samora Machel over the weekend.

“The two suspects were apprehended on Monday after two people were killed in different incidents. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested in the early hours of Sunday after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death on Saturday night in Cossovo.

And then, a 29-year-old was arrested on Monday night after he killed his friend in an argument,” said police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.

She said that the two appeared at the Athlone Magistrate Court where they are facing charges of murder.

Sitshitshi also added that the police in the Nyanga Precinct have arrested about 225 suspects who had been wanted for various crimes. The cluster includes Bishop Lavis, Gugulethu, Mannenberg, Elsies River, Nyanga and Philippi East.

“Of the arrests 77 suspects were arrested for the possession of drugs, 40 for the possession of dangerous weapons, 30 for drunken driving. Other suspects were nabbed for crimes against women and children including housebreaking and theft, house robbery, illegal liquor trading and assaults,” she explained.

Illegal firearms, ammunition, drugs, liquor and dangerous weapons were confiscated. “The successes were the result of the member’s diligence and vigilance and the assistance received from the Provincial Units,” she concluded.
