The media or broadcasting sector has a major influence in the lives of the people, especially children.

If adults can be influenced adversely by broadcasts, how much more with the young kids?

A public broadcaster is the body that is watched and listened to by almost everybody in the country, therefore it is bound to be influential.

It influences through programmes and people.

The question is, is the nature of programmes having positive effect on people? Or how many of those programmes are good for our people?

Whose culture do they promote? There is South African culture, where the national groups of South Africa find commonality.

In the way children are brought up there is a common ground; practice is almost the same to all.

The laws of the country never found any wrong-doing in the upbringing of all children across cultural and religious backgrounds. ‘Therefore there is a common culture. This is why I want to know whose culture the SABC promotes. Even if we talk about cultural diversity, what’s on TV is not a true reflection of that diversity.

It doesn’t reflect the true cultural backgrounds and beliefs of the national groups in South Africa. What we see on TV is completely foreign to us.

The people who present themselves on radio and TV cannot be role models at all. Being a role model begins with the true self.

If you were born Black, stay that way. Do not act like something else. If you are not proud of what you are naturally, it means you are not proud of your background, parents and Creator.

The manifestation of that is trying to change oneself to something else, hence they start to make a complete makeover of themselves.

It is worse with the accent, looks, way of speaking, presentation, behaviour and practices. I can’t believe what these people change themselves into.

Black people are naturally the most decent of people, in terms of dressing and behaviour in South Africa.

But now it’s becoming the opposite. They wear, speak, and behave so despicable. They voluntarily go under colonialism of the West, America in particular.

Clumsy dress-codes, clothes, way of speaking, walking and other unbecoming behaviour, are all from America. Where is us? They can’t even distinguish between what is good and bad, beautiful and ugly, right and wrong.

The worst is having them walking the streets almost naked.

When we were involved in the struggle for liberation, it was for freedom from oppression and exploitation. Our values as Africans and as Christians speak to this freedom. Oppression and exploitation are a contradiction.

Africans must stand up and demand of the SABC to stamp out this scourge, in favour of good programmes that are in line with our good values and cultural practices.

The worst part is that their lives (people on TV) are a true reflection of their habits.

Our children must be safe from this ugly nakedness, and scourge. The parents must stand against this crime!
