Jonathan Sipho Kussie, the larger-than-life figure who dabbled in boxing promotions, and who taught arts to many youngsters in the 1950s has passed on. He was 85.

Kussie, known in boxing circles as Kidwell Skonkwane will be buried on Saturday, 14 October in Gugulethu and his funeral will be held at the JL Zwane Presbyterian Church from 9am.

One of his proteges, Godfrey Mpulu, described Kussie as a “father figure who loved teaching children arts and life in general”.

He said Kussie was the “main man when it came to producing mural paintings and posters at the time”. “His work was much loved and it had a message,” he said.
