Bheki Nqoko’s fascinating musical journey has been traced, and yes it was impeccably “Made in Ntuzuma”.

This is as South Africa and the world at large witness the musician’s remarkable workmanship, as he releases his sophomore album, a follow-up to “Kuwe”.

The 17 track album sees the star also forging a working relationship with Gallo Records, in partnership with his record label, Kuwe Record.

Bheki performed with the late great Busi Mhlongo and recorded with the revered Brenda Fassie.

He said his music journeystarted in Ntuzuma hence the album title.

“Through my musical journey and experiences, the album, with 17 original compositions was born, and I hope these experiences will rub off on the masses.

“I believe the experience I gained from the previous album, made it possible to be where I am now,” he added.

Coming from a musical family with a trophy cabinet displaying more than 30 awards, Bheki’s earlier works included lending his talents to bands like Mbongeni Ngema’s Maria Maria, Stax, BusiMhlongo and Ntuzuma mass choir.

As soon as he landed in Jozi, Bheki started doing studio work as a backing sessionist working with greats such as Brenda Fassie, and Rebecca Malope.

In 1997, Bheki’s gospel album, “Mina Nawe”, was released under CCP Records. He is one of the founding members of Kofifi, that gave the country the FM Music Awards nominated “Emakhoneni” (2005).

Bheki has produced for the late Mr Staff, Vusi Nongxa and Kofifi.

He has also written songs for the likes of Siphokazi, Ndoh Dlamini, Kelly Khumalo, Lundi Tyamara, Vusi Nongxa, Imalini and Sbu

Bheki has also appeared in theatre productions like Mbongeni Ngema’s “Maria”, “Jubilations” musical alongside S’bongile Mngoma, and “Woza”, singing with the likes of the late Wendy Mseleku, Max Mntambo and Somizi Mhlongo directed by Themba Mkhize.

In 2007, Bheki started his own company Okzin Productions and signed himself as the first artist.

Having written “Fly” from her previous album, and “Love yourself” two albums earlier, the star says Kelly Khumalo approached him to do a song for her in the past and it didn’t come through.

“I felt the need to come through for her, and this time felt the need to feature her on “Ngiyamthatha” – a track bout taking the relationship to the next level at some point.

On the track with Mbuso Khoza, Bheki says he had already written and completed “MamaAfrica”.

“I felt there was something missing about the composition.

I slept over it and felt Mbuso would be perfect for it. He is unique, and his sense of music can’t be matched.

The tone of his voice is something else. He has that African tone.

I felt he was the guy to complement me on that song.

Also, he says the track is about the appreciating the beauty of woman kind. It could be the continent as well, playing the mother to all of us.”
