Learners in Cape Town schools will have a chance to participate in the Mzansi Spelling Bee competition.

According to Mzansi Spelling Bee organiser in the region Tumi Moripe the competition is open for children between the ages of 9-17 years.

“We are running the competition in all Nine provinces but this is our first time coming to the Western Cape and we hope children and their teachers will grab this chance,” said Moripe.

The competition pits children from all schools with winners from each province, progressing to national finals later in the year.

Moripe said there were many prizes for the children with the overall winner getting a publishing deal.

She urged schools in the townships of Langa, Nyanga, Gugulethu , Khayelitsha and surrounds areas to register for this competition.

“Lets bring the culture of reading back into our communities ,” she said.

“I want schools from the townships to be part of this because I know there are many talented learners there and this is their opportunity to shine,” she said.

Mzansi Spelling Bee can be entered by individuals or schools and libraries.
