Isiphiwo Primary School’s staff members, including non-technical staff, threw a surprise party in honour of their principal on Friday.

They said they were so pleased with principal Sigqibo Thabatha’s management style that he was deserving of the do.

Thabatha was heartily surpised with the proceedings, as his staff stormed into his office, singing songs of praise and led him to the well decorated school hall.

Bulelwa Thoba, the deputy principal, said Thabatha meant everything to them.

“We want to show him love and that we care about him. We are all happy about his management style. He is a parent, teacher and everything in our lives. He reprimands us when we are wrong and go astray, but in a good way. He always creates unity among all of us. We are praying that he does not change his character. He always jokes and treats us equally. He does not hold grudges. He is always open for any ideas that we come up with, which will develop learners,”

The staff members dug from their pockets to organise the event.

Nonyameko Mdludlu, a teacher, said they wanted to thank him for being a good leader.

“We thank him for leading by example. We can easily read his character. He builds harmony at the school. He has a very big love and listens to our problems, advises us and supports us. The school is doing very well academically under him, in music and in all sporting codes. I admire him, because he knows how to treat other people. He always says to us ‘remember you are an educator’,” Mdludlu said.

He first joined the school in 1997, when the school was still sharing premises with Luleka Primary School, and he was promoted to principalship in 1999.

Thabatha, in turn, thanked all the staff members for the “good work”, during an address in the school assebly.

He also sent them an appreciation message on their Whatsapp group thanking them for the “love”

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
