Ten men take turns raping girl

2016-11-24 06:02

After the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl by about 10 men, the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) has strongly condemned the act.

Three of the alleged perpetrators are still at large.

The incident took place in Nyanga on Tuesday.

The civic organisation said that the suspects have put the girl’s life in danger and have caused her psychological, physical and deep emotional trauma, which may take a lifetime to heal.

“We commend police for the swift arrest of seven of the 10 suspects and call on the Nyanga community to assist in the tracing of the remaining three responsible for the ghastly and despicable crime that has robbed the little girl of her innocence,” Jabu Mahlangu said.

Mahlangu appealled for a united action to stamp the scourge of rape and gender based violence(in society).

Mahlangu called for no bail and harsh sentences against the alleged perpetrators.

“Girl children and women can assist the objective for safer communities over the festive season by avoiding to walk alone in isolated spots and going out with strangers, particularly at night,” he stressed.

He urged parents to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of children particular during the December holidays after closure of schools.

The young victim was reportedly abducted at gunpoint and allegedly raped. She was able to identify her attackers, aged between 18 and 20 years old.
