If there was a graffiti artist watching Ulana Soccer Academy (USA) win the Mandalay Local Football Association’s Youth Cup, he would have moved to write on a nearby wall: “they came, played and conquered”.

It’s not easy to win a trophy in competitions like these but USA made light of it and ended winning two trophies in both the under-12 and under-14. A IMG6174

Inspired by their goal poacher Slovo Mqungquthu USA netted 11 goals whilst opponents saw the back of the net once.

The under-12s also copied their big brothers condemned Super Eagles FC 3-0 in a fast paced game dominated by striker Zairon Van Wyk.

USA founder Siphiwe Ulana ran out of words when describing his charges performances on the day.

“They were out of this world and played according to our plans. We knew we have to come to Mandalay to conquer,” said Ulana.

He said seven of his places had been invited to attend South African Football Association’s clinics.

“That is a sign of quality in itself. We are grooming players with potential,” enthused Ulana.

Mandalay LFA president Ringo Mbetheni also congratulated USA saying they “brought classical showing”.

“They played like a unit and it was impressive to see how they spread passes to form their attack,” he said.

Mbetheni urged the local businesses to support sports associations when they approach them for sponsors.

“We are struggling when it comes to staging tournaments of this nature and yet we have big businesses in the townships,” he said.
