A clap and tap group choir which consists mainly of scholars is aiming for making a breakthrough in music industry.

Revelations Gospel Choir (RGC) is appealing for assistance to record their debut album. The choir is formed by 46 members who are coming from Crossroads, Nyanga, Philippi and Lower Crossroads. It has been around for four years.

Lubabalo Maliti, the music director of the choir, said they aim to change the way the traditional gospel music is received.

“The support for our music has been very low, but lately we have noticed the growth in support. We need assistance so we will go and record an album. There are also people who love it, but yet they do not show support for it. I think the reason it is not getting much attention is because we do not use instruments like keyboard,” Maliti said. Maliti said the choir is fighting drug and alcohol abuse with music.

The choir participates in continuous competitions with other choirs around the province to be known and also to raise funds. They are busy preparing for their next show which will be held at Bath’ s Place, in Franschhoek, on Sunday 28 February. The show starts at 1pm.
