Wanderers set trailblazing start

The year ahead promises another good one for Langa football and netball, as during the Easter recess, all teams battled for the top spot in the Caltex trophy challenge at the stadium.

It kicked off on Friday with defending champions Wanderers FC on a winning start against Flamingo whom they beat 2-0.

Opening games were hectic with every team determined to proceed further in the tournament.

The sizeable crowd which came to witness the games went home pleased with the performances.

Langa FA chairman Eric Gum praised the teams for raising the bar.

“The level of football in Langa has grown, there are no longer small teams, so called small teams are there real competitors” he said. Gum said he was impressed by the display he saw from over the three day tournament. “Teams don’t give up easily without a fight,” he enthused.

On the final day youngsters swa magic football when Langa Legends played Angolan Legends - the team is formed of Angolan citizens who are based in Langa and Gugulethu.

The curtain raising game showed soke brilliance from the ageing fellows.

PPG Langa came second place while Red Tigers were crowed champions in netball, defending their trophy again.

In the juniors Under-14 Bafana Ba Flats were crowned champions while PPG Langa came .

In the under 16, Lion City came victorious against the stubborn Bafana Ba Flats. In the senior teamn Wanderers were crowned champions after beating Citizen FC. Wanderers defended their cup by winning 2-1, goals from Asavela Potelwa and Lwazi, while Ayanda junior Khuse scored th only goal for Citizen FC. Thanks to everyone who supported this event, from the community of Langa and Mr Ishmail the owner of Langa Caltex Garage. . Nyoka is the Langa LFA official.
