We are game, watch your back

2017-06-15 06:00

South Africa has become a wilderness where the rule of the jungle applies – the survival of the fittest.

The nation was struggling to cope with the dog-eat-dog economy when it suffered another blow, where man now eats man.

Killing, rape, robbery, hijacking and scams have become our national anthem.

We now live on the edge where you have to watch your back every minute. It looks like everyone else is a hunter, while others are being hunted.

Either you are hunted for your blood and body parts, or your money and belongings. While we are watching and safeguarding our kids from being kidnapped, we also become victims of rape or robbery. While being watchful of our belongings, the money disappears from our bank accounts.

A few weeks ago I became a victim of a job scam in an online job search engine.

There are too many bogus recruitment agencies online. Criminals are preying on desperate jobseekers.

When applying for jobs, please verify if the agent is genuine. Use common sense rather than allowing desperation to take control.

We have no time to relax. We need to keep safe at all times.

Let’s do the same with our kids and women. With our belongings, let’s keep an eagle watch.

Game animals have a way of protecting themselves from danger. Buffaloes graze in groups while baboons always have one on higher ground to scout for enemies. So let’s walk in groups and watch out for any suspicious activity.
