We need the Word to intervene in this mess

2017-07-13 06:02

The role of the church and our politics is one that needs talking about.

I may not be an expert in either, and thus posses a limiting understanding of the deeper roles each should play in our society, the shenanigans of both notwithstanding.

I grew up in the era of turbulence, where repressive laws were the order of the day in our manner of life.

Then, one knew where one stood in the struggle. The struggle for self determination was the order of the day. There was a common goal, which was the attainment of true emancipation. Opposition to oppression was above ground.

We voiced our disgust and it was during this time that the Church played a very major role in the struggle. Churches provided a haven for the oppressed. Some of the churches received constant visits from the army or police.

They stood firm and their unwavering support saw the state labelling some of its leaders as dangerous and had the guts to detain or sometimes unleash their brute force on them. During this time one could tell that the Word of God prevailed over every aspect of our existance and that the church fulfilled their spiritual and moral obligations.

Our country at this juncture needs the Word of Christ, if the present challenges are anything to go by. We are facing some of the biggest challenges in our democracy. Acts of an ungodly nature permeate society. Nevertheless, some of the worst heresy seems to be taking place right inside the hallowed walls in our churches. Could it be because there are now so many churches or denominations that the Word of God is no longer having the desired effect. Could it be that the end days are nigh. Nqanda Sombawo.Yeyele! We need to try the word of God now that nothing is going right in our country, maybe, by doing so everything else will fall into place.
