Amathaf’Entandabuzo, a classic isiXhosa novel has been adapted into a captivating theatre production.

It is based on a novel written by Fikiswa Magqashela.

Performed in isiXhosa with English subtitles, the play is beautifully written and deals with the theme of love.

The play uses the unpredictability of nature as a metaphor for love. The story is layered with the difficulties of love and life and filled with passion and intrigue.

Director Thami Mbongo brings together an impressive cast of young actors to breathe life into the novel’s characters.

Actors Ninkie Zimasa, Thembekile Komani, Bongile Mantsai, Mangaliso Ntekiso, Olwethu Mdala, Phumeza Rashe-Matoti, Nomakrestu Xakathugaga, Given Mkhondo and Anele Kose were all roped in to bring the story to life.

Mbongo was earlier this year awarded the Western Cape Cultural Affairs Ministerial Award for his contribution to the Arts.

“I love how the author writes about the complexities of love and relationships, using landscapes and the weather to portray the ups and downs of modern life,” said Thami.

The play will run at the Baxter Theatre Centre from on Thursday runs until 14 May. Tickets cost R40 at Computicket.
