Liziwe Zigebe (24) dreams very big about fashion and also wishes to operate a business to market her own personal designs in future.

Zigebe became part of a group of four aspirant fashion designers from Delft, Khayelitsha and Malawi who showcased their ground-breaking collection of designs during a show in the Cape Town CBD over the weekend.

The self-taught designer and the founder of LZ Design from Site B in Khayelitsha has been busy with the craft since the beginning of the year.

She is interested to pursue a career in fashion as it had been a hobby which she enjoyed since a young age.

“I became confident to do fashion fulltime after doing some voluntary work with Afrika Tikkun where I also learnt about life skills. I would like to prosper to a professional level in this industry and I am currently following African Fashion as my style to help to retain my roots,” she says.

“We also worked as a collective to host the Summer Fashion Fair today to motivate each other as youth to showcase our new wear to the public and the potential buyers.

Although it had been a poorly attended event, it became very successful to us as part of our humble beginnings. It also became a good highlight in our lives because we have learnt that we can always achieve good results and make it big in this industry if we work together,” says Zigebe.

The last born from a family two said she wishes to afford to eventually complete a fulltime fashion design course one day.
