The Visionary Youth Leader organisation is growing in leaps and bounds.

Fresh from their inaugural launch on Easter Monday, where they staged a highly successful sports day, they have recently launched another drive aimed at reinforcing their credentials as a youth based collective.

On that Monday, they made their much younger peers engage in rope skipping, street soccer, netball and traditional pastime activities, much to the delight of their parents.

The activities took place right on their street, NY6, where the organisation is based. Their mission is to show others that the triple challenges of drug use, gangsterism and teenage pregnancy are an anomaly that can be defeated if they are united and are kept busy. On Freedom Day, and true to their mission, the youngsters hosted another event at the Ikhwezi Community Centre in Gugulethu.

It was a day of dance, fashion and beauty. Young lasses danced to the rhythmic beat of the African drum, while others strutted the green carpet showcasing the latest fashion trends. The boys also showed their slick pantsula moves, to the delight of the audience. The day ended with the a beauty pageant for both boys and girls.

Parents came out in drives in support of the effort by their children. The organisers said they are planning another event soon.
