MORE than 10 people were injured after a taxi collided with a car on Vincent Dickons Road in Canelands on Friday morning.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) head Prem Balram, upon arrival at the scene officers found several people lying on the road.

“Paramedics from several private ambulance services stabilised 15 people who sustained moderate to severe injuries before transporting them to a local hospital.

“The taxi was transporting residents from the Canelands area to the Verulam CBD. Five of the occupants were pupils of Glenhaven Secondary and were on their way to school when the collision occurred.”

It is alleged, but not confirmed, that the taxi collided with the Mercedes- Benz that was turning into Vincent Dickons Road from the old Tongaat road, after its brakes failed, Balram said.

The driver of the Mercedes was also injured in the collision. - Supplied
