International Yoga Day commemorated

INTERNATIONAL Day of Yoga is set for Sunday, 21 June. The day was set aside by the United Nations General Assembly at India’s request.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi said, “Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being.”

Modi has called for an international movement towards peace and harmony through culture and especially yoga, which led to the idea for International Day of Yoga being born.

Indian consulates throughout the world would be hosting yoga session on this day. Modi called for making yoga a mass movement connecting people and strengthening the bonds of humanity.

Consul General on India in Durban Ranganathan Rajagopalan said: “We want to promote peace and harmony through yoga.”

The Shree Veeraboga Emperumal Temple, in association with the Consulate General of India - Durban, invites all to celebrate International Day of Yoga on Sunday, 21 June 2015 from 8am to 10am at the Temple premises, 483 Gopalall Hurbans Road, Tongaat
