TONGAAT’S karate superstars won a major share of the gold medals at the recent SKISA team challenge hosted at the DUT.

Siblings, Atesh and twin sisters Tahira and Kira Reddy, who all practice their karate at the Tongaat sports centre under president of Karate SA Hanshi Sonny Pillay, dominated the children’s categories.

“Our Skisa team challenge brings out the best in me,” said Tahira who has been scooping medals around South Africa in recent years.

Balito’s Demzil Muric and Priyanka Govender both demolished all opposition to win gold medals in the cadet and Junior divisions respectively.

Sensei Jabulo Khumalo, recently appointed coach of the eThekwini region, was full of praise for the North coast karate champs.

“These karate tigers will be the future stars of tournament karate around the republic,” said Khumalo.

Dzemil Muric expressed his joy at winning gold at the SKISA team challenge 2015.

“I am aiming for gold at the KSA nationals next year,” said Muric.

Protea coach Brando Pillay, who mentors the team said he was delighted that the karatekas were growing from strength to strength.
