Seventeen injured in crash

2015-06-04 06:01

SEVENTEEN people were injured in a roll-over accident on the Umdloti link road over the weekend.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said a report from the scene indicates that the bakkie with people on the back veered off the road and rolled, the occupants being thrown from the wreckage as it overturned.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and other services found the patients spread over a large area. After medics treated the wounded, they transported them to various hospitals.”

In a separate incident, a head-on collision between a taxi and a bakkie left four people injured, one critically so in Tongaat.

“Netcare 911 paramedics found some of the injured still trapped in the crumpled remains of their vehicle. After triaging, they established that one man had sustained critical injuries while three escaped with minor injuries.

“While firemen used the jaws of life to extricate the critically wounded man, paramedics clambered into the wreckage to stabilise him.

“After the patient was extricated and medics treated all the patients, they were taken to hospital,” said Botha.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
