TONGAAT Child Welfare hosted a distribution of school uniforms programme this past week.

Forty pupils from different schools received the donated the items.

Commenting on the initiative, social worker head Jo Moodley said the need for school uniforms arose at the beginning of the year when clients approached social workers requesting much-needed school uniforms for their children.

“Due to the large number of requests, a decision was taken by the board of management and the Children’s Fund Committee to undertake this distribution.

“The packages varied according to the uniform required at each school and included two of each items - example. dresses, pants, shirts, skirts, t-shirts, socks, shoes and underwear,” she said.

Moodley added that “it is through the hard work and sheer dedication of the schools in the Tongaat community that the project was made possible”.

“The Children’s Fund conceptualises the idea of ‘Children helping children’,” she said.

“The money collected are also utilized to sustain the Schools Breakfast Programme that is run by this society, ” concluded the social worker
