DIAGEO South Africa and their route- to-market partner, the Chelmsford Group, held a whisky promotion recently.

The winner was Phoenix resident, Sachin Singh, who won a new bakkie.

At the handover at Chelmsford Liquors in Tongaat on August 17, Singh said he was enthusiastic after being nominated in the bakkie draw.

“I entered [quite a few times] in May and June when the competition started. I bought the required items, filled in the entry form and put it, together with my till slip, in the entry box at the store.

“On July 20, I received a call from Diageo telling me I won the competition. However, I did not take the caller seriously because I thought it could be a prank call.

“It was such pure luck on my side after I got married on July 17. I was not expecting to win the competition.”

The mechanics were such that Chelmsford customers had to buy a range of Diageo Scotch Whisky to the value of R2 000 to be eligible to enter.

Upon purchasing the required quantity, customers entered a draw to win the bakkie.

The draw was done in Johannesburg at the Diageo head office and the lucky winner was drawn.

The directors of the Chelmsford Group wished the winners many hours of safe driving.
