THE 1860 Indentured Labourers Foundation, Verulam, held its biennial general meeting at Glenhaven Secondary School, Brindhaven on June 29.

Secretary Roy Raghubir outlined the many programmes the foundation was involved in over the past two years, including the youth conference in September last year.

Various outreach programmes at local schools were conducted, the publication of a brochure titled The Searchlight and the staging of play God Gave Me This Life were just some of them.

Raghubir also recorded the appreciation of the foundation to the many sponsors, supporters and well wishers for the support given.

The audited financial account was read out, discussed and adopted, followed by elections.

The following office bearers were elected - Jaisingh S. Singh (president),Maggie Achary (deputy president),Roy Raghubir (secretary), Sharm Ramdhani (assistant secretary), Shirley Jayrajh (treasurer), Ashwin Arjun (assistant treasure).

Other officer bearers elected to serve on the executive committee were Anand Jayrajh (media liaison officer), Doctor Kogi Parthab (PRO), Anisha Raghubir­ (curator),Bobby Perumal, Preshella Hariparsaad, Meena Sookdaw, Womadevi Thotaram and Shuneel Mathura.

Doctor Parthab gave a brief preview of the conference titled “woman power inspiration from women in indenture” to be held in November.

Jayrajh also gave a brief preview of a national conference on indentured to be held in November 2018 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the foundation.
