MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Sihle Zikalala said he was delighted

“On behalf of the provincial government of KwaZulu-Natal we wish to register our gratitude for being invited to be part of this celebration of yet another chapter in the ongoing story of economic growth and development of KwaZulu-Natal.

An estimated R50 billion is being invested in this development of upmarket and Sibaya coastal precinct over a period of 15 years.

Ward 58 councillor Geoff Pullan said: “This land has not been used for a long time and we are pleased today that it has been earmarked for such a massive development.

“As the councillor in Ward 58 I am delighted that the massive development is actually taking place in my ward. This will most definitely reduce the high unemployment rate in our communities,” he said.

The Sibaya Coastal Precinct is situated between the boundaries of the Ohlanga and Mdloti river estuaries and stretching from the N2 highway to the sea. The site is predominately covered with sugar cane from current farming activities by Tongaat Hulett.

The precinct has been split into seven nodes each with their own character. Construction of service infrastructure commenced in node one in August, and node five will follow.
