THE task team formed to crack down on the spate of business robberies in Verulam arrested three men this week for the crimes.

Verulam SAPS communications officer Lieutenant Mark Prakasim said police were investigating several leads over recent weeks regarding a gang of eight to 10 men who were breaking into and robbing businesses in the community.

“The task team was formed to investigate and apprehend these suspects,” said Prakasim.

“The officers in the task team worked hard to track these suspects down and arrest them and recover items which were stolen.”

Prakasim said the trio was arrested with cigarettes, cellphones and airtime vouchers which are suspected to have been taken during the robberies.

“The suspects are detained at the Verulam SAPS and are being linked to other robbery cases in the Verulam area,” said Prakasim.

“The task team is commended for the efforts in making the arrests and the remaining suspects will be arrested soon.”

Prakasim urged the community to report any information they may also have on the remaining members of the gang by contacting the Verulam SAPS on 0325415214.
