Calypso easy into semi-final tournament

2017-09-07 06:00

CALYPSO Sporting FC took on Durban Academy Football Club in a quarter final match at the Indoor stadium in the Hot Shots opening indoor knock out tournament recently.

The club going into this match was upbeat about the commencement of the indoor tournament but also was cautious against the visitors who they did not know much off.

This however, did not deter Calypso Sporting from starting the match in their normal style in taking the attack to the visitors and creating many chances in the opening few minutes. This confidence boosted the players and continued with the onslaught and the opening goal came within 10 minutes from the start.

The defenders of Calypso had not much to do and pushed forward for the second goal that came midway in the first half and at half time were three nil up. At half time, coach Bunker Naidoo motivated the players to not concede any goals and to keep position of the ball and this will frustrate the opposition and a win will be for the taking.

The boys however started from where the first half ended and within seconds of the start of the second half second a fourth goal to take the game away from the visitors.

The team continued with their rampant form and found a further three goals by the time the match ended and won the match 7-0.

In the end it was a convincing win that sees the boys into the semi-final on Wednesday night against Buffelsdale Giants “A” and the management was happy with the win and the positive from this match that it was an all-round performance from every player according to the coach.

The goalkeeper did extremely well in not conceding any goals and also made some good saves to keep the opposition at bay including the defenders who frustrated the strikers in not allowing them to penetrate and score. Training for the senior team continues on Tuesdays at 7pm at the Outspan ground. The juniors in the under 13 and 15 divisions train on Wednesdays at the Outspan ground from 5pm to 6pm.
