2016-08-11 06:00

THE Tongaat Indoor Stadium Calypso Sporting FC opened the 2016 indoor season with a convincing win over Maidstone FC and coming into this match were fresh from their opening 2016 knock out win last week.

The match started as usual with a full attack and they did not give the opposition time to settle and thus took control and dedicated the pace and tempo of the game.

Vinay Sookdhoo was as excellent as usual in not conceding any goals and was also called to make some good saves.

In defence the captain Chappa Mapumulo, Victor Mngomezulu and Keshev Naidoo stood strong and resilient in marshaling the back line and not allowing any moves to pass them.

They easily and comfortably diffused the attacks, frustrated and suppressed the opposition in not allowing them anyway near the goals and were only allowed to take long range shots that was of no danger.

The attack upfront was spearheaded by Veshay Naidoo, Renolan Govender, Preshen Khomarsamy and assisted by Keshev Naidoo who ran all over the opposition creating excellent chances and enabling them to score regularly and convincingly win the match 5-0.

Newcomer Owen Coopsamy, who is in his teens and in his first senior match, showed brilliant skills with the ball. The management of Calypso was happy with the opening win that was an all-round team performance, but is not too excited knowing it’s only the first match and a still a long way to go.

They will be focusing on one match at a time and at the same time building a strong team for the future and with the vision of playing in the national indoor professional league of SAFA.

Currently there is only one defender and striker position available. The club trains on Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm at the Shaik Mohideen stadium and on Sundays from 4.30pm at the indoor sports stadium.
